William Wyatt Davis was born 4 Aug 1844 in Hart County, Kentucky. He was a son of James Wyatt Davis (1812-aft1875) and Lydia (Polly) Pierce (1815-1870)

On 18 Nov 1866 William married Hester Ann Beauchamp (1853-aft1870). She was a daughter of Felix G. Beauchamp and Mary Ann Skaggs. They had a daughter Rebecca Florence Davis, b. 17 Oct 1867 in Green or Hart County, Kentucky. Revecca married William Frank Etherton on 11 Oct 1883 and they moved to Mason City, Illinois where Rebecca died on 9 Oct 1936.

After Hester died, William Davis married again to Rutha A. Warren, daughter of Elzay and Virginia Young Salsman Warren. William and Rutha had 3 identified children: Thomas F. Davis, Sep 1875; Lydia E. Davis, Jan 1879; and Laura E. Davis, b. 11 June 1882. There is evidence of a 4th child, unknown, perhaps an infant death.

In the 1870 Green County census, William and Hester are family 44. He is a farmer, age 24, and she is 17 years of age. They have a 2 year old daughter, Rebecca F., age 2 years.

In the 1900 census for Upper Brush Creek, Green County, Kentucky, William W. Davis was 56 years of age. He has been married 28 years to Rutha A., 48. Mother of 4, 4 living children.
At home are: Thomas T., 24, b. Sep 1875; Lydia E., 21, b. Jan 1879; Laura E., 17, b. Jun 1882.

In the 1910 Green County Census, Upper Brush Creek, He is 38 years of age and has been married 4 (?) years. This is his second marriage. His wife is Rutha A., age 38, and the mother of 4, all living. In the household are a son, Thomas F., age 34, with his new wife, Ida M., age 20, they have been married 1 year. Wm's daughter Laura E. age 27, is also in the family.

WILLIAM WYATT DAVIS was born in Hart County. He was described at enlistment as 18 years old, 5 ft. 6 inches tall, blue eyes, fair hair, and fair skin. He was enrolled by Capt. Wilson in Company K, 26th Ky. Infantry, Union Army. He was a son of James W. Davis.
