Death of Mother of Large Family
Matilda A. Burgess was born in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, April 25, 1842. Was married to W. H. Johnson April 16, 1861 at Pittsburgh, Pa., and moved to Mazomanie, Wis., in 1867. To this union were born five daughters. On Feb. 15, 1872, Mr. Johnson was called to the great beyond. On May 3rd one daughter was called home. On Nov. 15, 1873, Mrs. Johnson was married to G. W. Wakefield at Mazomanie, Wis. To this union was born one daughter. They moved to Madrid, Nebr. in the summer of 1887 and has lived here and at other places in Nebraska ever since. About a year ago her health failed and she was brought to the home of a daughter, Mrs. Pete Mickels, with the exception of some months in the home of a daughter at Woodburn, Ore. she passed away at Madrid on December 17, 1927, aged 85 years, 7 months and 21 days.
She leaves to mourn her loss; a devoted husband; five daughters, Mrs. Pete Mickels of Madrid, Mrs. E. K. Boman of Boulder, Colo., Mrs. J. McCord of Oshkosh, Nebr., Mrs. Ross Henry of Madrid, and Mrs. R. W. Humphrey of Woodburn, Oregon, 41 grandchildren, number 102 great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild besides a host of neighbors and other friends
