James Shields Adkins, 80, of 109 Summit Drive, Greer, died October 1, 2009 at Greer Memorial Hospital following several months of declining health.

Mr. Adkins was the son of the late Washington Adkins and Maude Roe Adkins. He was co-owner with his late brother, Walter Adkins of Adkins Auto Service and was a member of Ridgewood Baptist Church.

Mr. Adkins is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Louise Morgan Adkins; a daughter, Faye A. Holley and son-in-law, Joseph Amos Holley; 11 nieces and five nephews; two granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at The Wood Mortuary conducted by Rev. Wayne Norton. Burial will follow at Wood Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Morgan, Ben Adkins, Albert McAbee, Charles Gardner, Mike Barnes, Bill Green, and Johnny Flynn.

Visitation will be held 1 to 1:45 p.m. Saturday at The Wood Mortuary.

The family is at the home.
