Affectionately called "Dolly" by her family, Jo was born Jan. 19, 1922, in Cambria, Weston County, a coal mining community. As a child, she moved with her parents to Superior. Upon high school graduation, she settled in Cheyenne where she worked for a decade as head clerk in the Office of the Wyoming State Engineer. In 1948, Jo married the love of her life, Clinton A. Black. They resided in Cheyenne where they raised a family, were active in the community, and had many friends. This union lasted 49 years until Clint's death in 1998. Jo moved to Fort Collins in 2007 to live closer to her children.
Jo and Clinton were founding and lifelong members of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Besides her devotion to family and her church community, keen interests included travel, bridge and pets.
Preceding Jo in death were her parents, Joseph and Blanche Corazza; a sister and brother-in-law, Adelaide and Avo Pierantoni of Laramie; and her brother-in-law, Norman R. Black, M.D., of Cheyenne.
She is survived by her two children, Clinton J. Black and friend, Barbara Brekke of Loveland, Colo., and Amy Black and her spouse, Dale Daggers of Fort Collins; two granddaughters, Sarah Halfman and husband, Russ, of Laramie and Greta Black and her husband, Jarod Skagen, of Athens, Ohio; niece and best friend, Sandra Johnson of Cheyenne; sister-in-law, Mary Black of Buffalo; niece, Mary Schiffer of Buffalo; nephew, Norman Black and wife, Ryllis of Greenwood, Ind.; nephew, Stephen Black of Tucson, Ariz.; nephew, Joseph Pierantoni of Laguna Woods, Calif.; nephew, Dale Pierantoni and wife, Mary of Laporte, Minn.; niece, Louise Morris, of Greeley, Colo.; cousin, Caroline Flaim of Rock Springs; and former daughter-in-law, Barbara Black of Laramie.
Vigil for the Deceased will be 6 p.m. Tuesday at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes. Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Thomas Cronkleton as celebrant. Interment of the urn will follow in Olivet Cemetery
In lieu of flowers, gifts in Jo's name are suggested for the Cheyenne Animal Shelter or the Boiler and Window Fund at Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
