Roy Walker Poff Sr., or better known to all,"Billy", lived in around Huntsville Alabama for years. He had one sister, Sarah. He was married three times. His first wife, Annie Murphy Poff, died due to complications at the age of twenty five.
His second wife was to my Mother, Sarah L. Franklin, until their divorce in 1956. I chose not to add my Mother's ( Sarah L. Franklin) name to Billy's memorial, I know she wouldn't of wanted it.
Roy's third wife was to German born Eileen Rebecca Poff, now deceased on January 22, 1996. Eileen remained his wife until his death. Billy also served in the USN, during WW11. He received honorary discharge due to being shot in line of duty.

He was an electrician by trade. During the Vietnam War he was sent by the United States Government to Vietman to build communication lines for our armed forces. He was an expert at what he did.

Roy Walker Poff Sr, ( Bily) had five children, oldest son from his first marriage, Billy Wayne Poff, of Huntsville Alabama (who was raised by Billy's (Roy) sister Sarah Poff). Billy had four children by Sarah (my mother), his second wife,(in order of birth),is Linda Ann Poff (of North Carolina), Larry Lee Poff, Roy Walker Poff Jr, and Susan G. Poff, residing in Las Vegas Nevada for year.

Sadly Billy had very little relationships with any of his children during his life. Especially his four children by Sarah Franklin. During his life, he drank alcohol to much and was abusive to my Mother. I recall as a small child of six years old, Billy was beating upon my Momma, and I kicked him to stop, he grabbed me and threw me across the room into a roll top deck, a pencil went deep into the palm of my small hand, I screamed and my Momma chased him from the house with a gun in her hand, b/c he hurt her baby girl. It was then that she( Sarah) divorced him, she was a remarkable Mother, and Momma. She & her second husband Jack F. Moore, made her children what they are today, good people. Sarah & Jack remained married until their deaths.

Billy suffered greatly before his death in 1988 of cancer, heart problems, and poor blood circulation in his legs, and diabetic. He begged to be taken from life support shortly before his death, and his wishes were granted. I don't know why to this day but Billy's wife, Eileen, did not have the heart to have him taken from life support, so she called me, and I gave the doctors permission to release him from any and all life support, his last words to his wife were, "tell Linda Ann, I am sorry". I forgave him.

He served in the US Navy during WWII, and was shot during an attack to his ship.
He had gotten an honary discharge, and began his career as an electrician in Huntsville Alabama.

Because of his physical abuse, adultery habits, & alcoholism, my Mom (Sarah) divorced Billy in Huntsville Alabama in 1956, he moved to Long Beach California and began working for Harvey Aluminum Aircraft & Electrical, for years. He was an expert at his profession.

I am his oldest daughter,(Linda Ann). I remember him well, a short man, with his strong stocky built and jet black hair and green eyes. I regret he wasn't in his childrens life more, but it wasn't for we didn't try. A couple of us tried to see him shortly before his death, and we did. I located him in Huntington Park, Ca. I knocked on his door until he answered. Sadly his wife then Eileen had no idea he had four grown children by his second wife Sarah. Eileen was a very sweet & kind small lady, and very shocked at the news of having four children other then his oldest son Billy Wayne Poff by his first marriage.

I am thankful my Mother was the woman she was, with very little support from Billy she raised her four babies. And our step dad (Jack) he became our Dad, Daddy, Poppa, we are blessed.
I have found out some things in life, anyone can make a baby, but it takes a hell of a man and woman to raise them love them, claim them, mentor them for life.

I am just sorry Roy didn't try harder, he had four good kids from his second marriage to(my Mom)Sarah, he missed alot. Since this memorial has been written two of Billy's children by Sarah (2nd wife) have since passed, Larry Lee & Susan Gail Poff. I thought long & hard about adding their names to hs memorial, but I truly believe they wouldn't want this, for Billy wasn't a part of our life, we had no love for him. He was a dead beat Father, he wasn't in our life. This sounds horrible but it is what it is. When Billy passed & I was notified of his illness, I spoke to my siblings, their reply, as I felt was. He wasn't a Father figure in our life, and we had no love for him, for he wasn't around nor claimed us, more denied us, but that was his doing, not ours. I felt sory for him, he missed so much.
Billy planted the seeds but didn't help or watch them grow. He was never hated, by no means, but our hearts broke for years b/c of his absence, that he choose. As Christains we forgave him. So sad for his youngest son, his name sake Roy W. Poff Jr., ( by Sarah) is the image of him.

I pray he has found peace, God Bless you Daddy Billy.
