Audrey Cleland deWinter Roberts, 91, passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2009 at Bella Senior Residence in Niagara Falls.

She was born April 17, 1918 in Folkestone, Kent, England, the daughter of John William deWinter and Katherine Alice Cleland Webb and was raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba with one sister and brother.

In 1941, she married her childhood sweetheart Arnold. They raised four children in various places in eastern Canada, the U.S. and England, where Arnold was assigned with the Canadian Army. Audrey never worked outside of the home, but volunteered in the community and church callings including Relief Society president.

In 1968, Arnold retired and Audrey stood by his side when he was called as Mission President to the Great Lakes Mission in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Then, together they purchased a campground in New Brunswick and over the next 12 years built it up from nothing. Two more missions followed at the Washington D.C. Temple, and then in 1989 they were called as first President and Matron of the new Toronto LDS Temple. Even in her later years, she served with Arnold on assigned shifts at the Toronto Temple.

Audrey is survived by her children Stanley (Donna) Roberts, Morewood, Canada; Leslie (Roger) Madsen, Boise, Idaho; Margo (Jim) McKinstry, Kaysville, Utah; and, Sybil (Bill) Enloe, Boise, Idaho; 18 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sweetheart Arnold, daughter Carol Anne, granddaughter Cynthia, and her parents and siblings.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 North Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.
