Literary Figure. Ida was a friend of Laura Ingalls Wilder and appeared in several of her "Little House" books. Born in Chicago to Thomas and Catharine Wright, Ida lost her parents and sister Mary in the Great Chicago Fire of 1871; her brother Henry survived and was adopted by another family. She was later adopted by Rev. and Mrs. Edward Brown. The family moved to DeSmet, South Dakota where Rev. Brown helped found the Congregational Church in town. She married her beau Elmer McConnell in 1885 and they had five children: Laura, Mark, Robert, Eva and James. Ida and her family left DeSmet to move to Wisconsin, and then eventually to California, where they stayed the rest of their lives. Ida died before Laura Ingalls Wilder began writing her famous books.
