CHARLES SYDNEY HOGE

"And a little child shall lead them."

Charles Sydney Hoge was born October 21, 1917, at the hospital in Henry. He was baptised November 21, 1917, by the Rev. Lofgren. He died at the St. Francis Hospital in Streator, IL, March 21, 1926, after an illness of three weeks, and was laid to rest in the cemetery northeast of Wenona, IL. And that is a story in itself. The beginning and the end of a life. No one can enter into one's life and not leave a mark or an inflluence that time or space cannot obliterate.

This child of 8 years and 5 months has completed the cycle, has finished his work on earth, has closed his eyes on the world, and joined the ransomed and the blest where there is no more sorrow nor parting and where all is peace and harmony.

Charles was a pupil in the primary room in the public school, a studious, gentlemanly little fellow with a pleasing personality. He was a member of the M. E. Sunday school.

Charles possessed artistic talent, and before he was taken ill, he drew a picture which he sent to a school of drawing. Last Monday his parents received a scholarship certificate complimenting the boy on his drawing.

As his life neared a close, Charles told his mother he was not afraid to die, and that she should not cry. To his
father he said, "Good-bye Daddy". He fully realized that he was leaving, and smilingly closed his eyes on this earth.

The funeral was held on March 24 at the M. E. church.

People came to the funeral from every walk in life, old and young, to pay tribute to the lad.

We as a community extend sympathy to the parents in their hour of sorrow.
