A resident of this vicinity for the past 17 years, Mr. Wedemeyer was born May 10, 1906 in Lehe [later incorporated into Bremerhaven], Germany, and was married to Arlene R. Roberts, who survives, on April 29, 1944 in Chicago, Ill.
Mr. Wedemeyer, a career officer and veteran of WWII, served in the U.S. Coast Guard for 31 years. He was a member of the SS THomas and Matthew Episcopal Church in Eugene, The Retired Officers Association, and the U.S. National Guard Reserves.
He was employed by the Springfield School District 19 from 1961 until retiring in 1971 from Thurston High School, where he taught German.
Surviving besides his wife, Arlene, are two daughters, Ann L. Boehm of Baltimore, Md., and Carol E. Hall of St. Helens, Ore.; two grandchildren; a brother, Wilhelm, and a sister, Anna Huber, both living in West Germany. A son, Eric, died in 1956.
The memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday in the SS Thomas and Matthew Episcopal Church, 1465 Coburg Road, with the Rev. Richard C. Glidden of St. John's Episcopal Church in Springfield officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that those wishing contribute to the American Cancer Society or their favorite charity in Mr. Wedemeyer's memory.
Cremation took place July 23 in Rest Haven Crematorium with Burns-Fredericksen in charge of the arrangements.
