William is a son of Peter and Dority Hart.

William and Mary's graves have not been found and are assumed to be on his former land in the Big Poor Valley where he lived for many years after he and his family left Ashe County NC.

1801 - William Hart, State Grant # 137, 50 ac Crab Fork of Prators Creek, Ashe County NC. entered 29 Apr. 1799, adjoining land owned by James Hart, that we assume was his Uncle and Joseph Caldwell.
1802, William sold his land on Crab Fork and in 1805 bought 150 acres on the Hart Branch on Brushy Fork, that is also a branch of Prather's Creek. William and his growing family appear on the 1810 and 1820 Ashe County, North Carolina census.

William and his family migrated to Hawkins County, Tennessee sometime between 1820 to 1824.
1830, Hawkins County, Tennessee, William, now widowed is living next to his son Peter Hart.
Nov. 13, 1835, a Tennessee Land Grant was issued jointly to William and Peter Hart for 80 acres of land "on the north side of the Hoiston River in Big Poor Valley at the foot of the Clinch Mountains".
Aug 4, 1836, William Hart sold his share of land to Peter Hart and Markham Kenner, jointly.
William Hart's family was the only Hart family living in Hawkins County, Tennessee in the 1830's and 1840's and are the only Hart family that appear on census.
Nov. 20, 1845, Peter Hart sold his remaining land to Markham Kenner and moved a short distance South to Greene County, Tennessee. Peter Hart returned to Hawkins County and was listed in the 1860 Hawkins County, Tennessee census where they list their post office as Rogersville.

is last found in the 1850, Hawkins Census in household 137 with 2 unmarried daughters, Mary age 21 and Tabitha, age 19.
Nearby neighbors are his son Martin Hart, William Taylor, Christian Shanks, Elizabeth and Sarah Kyle, Thomas Johnson and the Martin (buried in Lawson Cemetery, Eidson) and Martha Lawson family.
