He was a loving husband, father and papaw.
He was a lifelong farmer, a member of the Baptist Church in Heltonville and a member of the Heltonville Area Veterans. He worked for Heltonville Limestone Company for 25 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He enjoyed being outdoors. He will be greatly missed.
On Sept. 18, 1948, Ray married Essie Dell Cummings, and she survives. Also surviving are one son, Stephen Blackwell and Beth of Heltonville; three daughters, Sharlene Christenberry and John Ford, and Sharon Johnson and Stephen, all of Heltonville, and Susan Brock and Jack of Norman; two brothers, Darrell Blackwell and Gleatha and Wayne Blackwell and Roberta, all of Bedford; two sisters, Cleta Murphy of Norman and Betty Todd of Seymour; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Marion Blackwell; and four sisters, Wilma Allen, Marie Fish, Reatha Seiverling, and Lena Murphy.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Jones Funeral Home in Heltonville with the Rev. James Stevens and Brother Randy Corbin officiating. Burial will follow at Cresthaven Memory Gardens.
