John Otis Callaway, 87, of 1251 1/2 Broadway in Baker passed away Saturday, June 3, 1978 at the Grand Ronde Hospital in LaGrande. Funeral services for Mr. Callaway were held Tuesday, June 6 at 10 am in the Beatty Chapel with Rev. James Shaver of the First Christian Church in Baker officiating. Vault interment followed in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Mr. Callaway was born August 13, 1890 to George W. and Mary Jane Callaway in Muscatine, Iowa. He came to Oregon in 1912 and worked for a time in a mill before going into carpentry work. He was a past member of the Missouri Plat Grange and had resided in Baker County most of his life.

Survivors include one daughter, Myrtle Jane Lange of Citrus Heights, Ca.; two brothers, Roy Callaway of Baker and Sherman Callaway of Salem; and three granddaughters as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters.
