COLWICH - Knoblauch, Johanna Catherine "Schmitz", 76, passed away on Monday, Oct. 5 from natural causes. She is preceded in death by her parents, Gerhard and Marie Otte Schmitz, her sisters, Helena Forster, Roseann Schmitz, Carolyn Pritz, and Mary Schmitz, and her children, Rodney, Joseph, Mary and Sheila. She is survived by her sons Fred (Cecilia), Bel Aire, Glenn (Phyllis), Conway Springs, Tom, Aurora, CO., Ted and Doug of Colwich, and daughters, Sandra Grangeno, Fort Worth, TX, Joann (Ed) Rhodes of Roy, Utah, and Joyce (Dan)Ridder of Garden Plain. 20 grandchildren,14 great-grandchildren and 1 step-great-grandchild. Her brother, Joseph of Andale, and her sisters, Matilda Paney (John) of Ost, Theresia (Ron) Brunin of Andale, Charlene Albert of St. Mark, Josephine (Joe) Hallacy, Wichita, Rosalin Wickman of Wichita, Joann Comstock of Las Cruces, NM., and Barbara (John) Betzen of Derby. Funeral Services are being handled by Wulf-Ast Mortuary, Colwich. A private, family rosary will be held on Wed. at 7:00 at the Mortuary. Visitation will be from 9-5 on Thurs. at the Mortuary, with the rosary at 7:00 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be Friday at 10:30 at the church, with burial immediately following at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Johanna was born January 7, 1933 on the family farm in Reno Co. and attended Ost grade school and Andale High School. Upon graduation,she moved to Wichita and worked in the kitchen at St. Francis Hospital. She married Roman Knoblauch on October 18, 1952, and after living in Wichita a few years, she moved to Colwich where she raised her children and maintained a large vegetable garden. After the children had grown, she worked at the Colwich Nursing Center. She loved caring for the residents and maintained the friendships she developed with the residents for the rest of her life. Memorials have been established with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church Building Fund.
