Death has come unexpected to the home of one of our citizens. B.F. Kennedy, ex-prothonotary of Allegheny county and a civil war veteran, after attending a family re-union on Tuesday at Tarentum, came home on the 10:20 p.m. train, went to his home and in a few minutes was called into eternity, his death being attributed to heart failure. Doc, as he was familiarly called, was in the days of his political life one of the jolliest, best natured men in the court hose, and lost much money by his generosity and kind heart. He leaves a mother, wife and several grown up and small children, also four sisters, Mrs. Margaret Haslett and Mrs. Martha Thompson of Springdale, Mrs. Rachel Dickson of Tarentum, Mrs. Wesley Thompson of Wilkinsburg, and two brothers, J.M. Kennedy of this place and John Kennedy of McKeesport. The remains were laid to rest in Prospect cemetery, Tarentum, on the afternoon of Aug 3.
The city papers in several instances published that Mr. Kennedy served during the civil war in the Confederate army. This is entirely unfounded as his entire service was in the Union army, and it is an undue reflection on a gallant soldier. On March 2, 1862, he enlisted in Co. C, 11th Pa. Reserves, and on June 26 was captured with nine companies, including Col. …
