At an early age he moved with his parents to Vermillion county, Illinois, later moving to Coles county in the same state. In the early seventies he moved to Piatt county, Illinois where he engaged in farming and also ran a mill for a number of years. In the early eighties he moved from Illinois to the state of Kansas, locating in Elk county, later moving to Meade county, Kansas. From the latter place he came to this county in May, 1886, with the first bunch of settlers to locate in this section. For a number of years afterwards locating here he engaged in farming and stock raising but he retired from work several years ago.
Relatives who survive are two sisters, Mrs. Eugenia S. WEBSTER of College Grove, Ohio and Mrs. Helena D. ADAMS of Moline, Kansas, also a nephew, J. F. KLAPP of this city. The deceased was a man of few words and a man who attended strictly to his own business. He was a great reader and student and during his life term had accumulated a vast amount of data from newspapers on all events. He was one of the best posted men in this community. Mr. KLAPP or “Uncle Gus” as a he was known to everybody remained a bachelor all his life.
Burial services were conducted by Rev. W. A. Hitchcock at the Methodist church on Friday afternoon of last week, interment being at the Ochiltree cemetery. The pall bearers were J. S. TALLEY, O. T. GLASGOW, W. M. GLASGOW, H. T. CUTTER, J. T. McLARTY and J. H. NORWOOD.
