Retired in 1974 from General Electric

Anthony J. Szczesny, 85 ... died Monday, April 14, 1997, at Hamot Medical Center.

He was born in Poland, Sept. 17, 1911, son of the late John and Theodora Wysniewski Szczesny.

Mr. Szczesny had worked as a stock keeper at General Electric for 34 years, was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club and Retired Employees Association, the Huzars Club and St. James Roman Catholic Church; and was a staff sergeant with the U. S. Army during *World War II, serving with the 524th Engineer Topographic Battalion.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Virginia, Jean and Sally; and two brothers, Chet and Ted.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, ..., a daughter, ..., two sons, ... two sisters, Helen Baderschneider and her husband Mel, of California and Mary August of Erie, two brothers, Charles Szczesny of Erie and ... of Edinboro; a grandson, ...; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home ... and may attend a service there Thursday at 10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at St. James Roman Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery."

*Was a Staff Sergeant with the U. S. Army during World War II, serving with the 524th Engineer Topographic Battaliion, first in the Philippines where he became an American citizen, then sent to Germany until end of war.

Tony spent many winter months in Florida after his retirement and enjoyed going to Tampa Bay Downs to watch horse races, especially the ones owned and trained by his sons.
