GREENSBORO- Mr. R. M. "Happyrock" Gladstone, 94, died peacefully Tuesday, March 28, 2006, at his home in Abbotswood.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church, where he was member of the Agape Sunday School Class. He donated his body for medical study.

Hap was a native of Guilford County and was the son of Flora Anthony Gladstone and Rankin Monroe Gladstone. He was a WW II Navy veteran, and while in the 7th grade he won the Declamation Contest of Guilford County which changed his life. He was a graduate of Alamance High School and was a member of the Avant Guard of Davidson College from where he graduated in 1934, a former member of the High Point Rotary Club, organizing/charter member and Elder of Forest Hills Presbyterian Church in High Point.

After retirement from Northwestern Mutual Life, he worked for the Guilford County Tax Department in property re-evaluation; he helped to develop the Cardinal and was known as one of the best senior golfers in Guilford County. Among his proudest accomplishments in mortgage loan and real estate investment deals was the building of the Granville Towers Complex in Chapel Hill.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Murchison Gladstone and his son, Kent Gladstone.

Happyrock is survived by his wife, Katherine Anderson Russell Gladstone; daughter Ms. Lynn G. Parker of Charlottesville, Va.; stepdaughter Rebecca R. Albright and her husband, David of Summerfield; stepson Stephen Russell and his wife, Julie of Charlotte; two grandchildren four step grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Abbotswood and after the service Friday in the Virginia Gilmer room at the church.
