George Amos Jr. was a Nebraska State Trooper. He served three years for the Police Force, dying in the line of duty at age 28. Trooper Amos pulled over a drunk driver on I-80, near Lexington, Nebraska. After arresting the suspect, the suspect and his wife began struggling with Trooper Amos inside the Patrol Car. They gained control of Trooper Amoses Service Revolver, and shot him with it. A short time later, after a high speed chase by other Officers, near Gothenburg, Nebraska, a State Trooper rammed their vehicle, disabling it, and took them into custody. They were both convicted. The woman was only convicted of manslaughter and sent to prison. The man was sentenced on July 26th, 1973 to life in prison. He died in prison on April 24th, 1991, after almost 18 years in prison. Trooper Amos was survived by a wife and two sons.
