He was a son of James Lawton Abbott and Edith Pearl Mellott Abbott. He retired after 29 years from J&L Steel in Aliquippa where he was a slitter operator.
A member of the Hanover Presbyterian Church, he enjoyed woodworking, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.
His wife, Georgia Anna Abbott, whom he married on Aug 4, 1956, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Aug 2006 at a bed and breakfast in Sugarcreek, Ohio, with their family.
He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, William, Delbert and Bobby Abbott. Delbert and Bobby died in infancy. Also preceding him were 3 half- brothers, Lloyd "Pete" Abbott, Harry Abbott, and Jack Abbott and a half-sister Audrey Whitacre.
