A Confederate Soldier who bravely and proudly fought for Southern Independence during the War of Northern Aggression. Private in of Co. H. 50th Infantry, Moultrie, Colquitt Co. Ga. Wounded and captured on July 3rd 1863, at Gettysburg, Pa. He was a prisoner at Point Lookout Union Prison, Md. until Feb. 18, 1865, near the end of the war. Lewis was born in Zebellon (that became Griffin in 1840), Pike Co., Ga., now part of Spalding Co., and moved to Colquitt Co. in 1856 and later to Ways/Pavo area of Thomas Co., Ga., in 1872, where he farmed 225 acres and raised eleven children until his death in 1907. He was the son of Alexander W. Humphreys of Ga., and Sarah _ Wade (Wade from 1st. marriage) of Va.. Her maiden name is unknown. Brother of half sister, Jane Wade (mrd Elijah R. Hurst), Savannah Humphreys, CSA Henry Alex. Humphreys, CSA Private, Clement T. (mrd Eliz. Folsom, Susan Ivey), CSA Emily C. Humphreys (mrd Corp. Thomas M. Shytle) Husband of Sarah A. Gunn, father of my great grandfather Robert E./R. E. Humphreys, Grt Grt Grandfather of Wanda Humphreys Tillman.

Great Great Granddaughter Wanda Humphreys Tillman, ordered on Lewis's 175th Birthday, May 17, 2006, the Confederate marker that was placed at the foot of his grave on Oct. 1, 2006, with great appreciation to the John McNeill, SCV Camp in Moultrie for their ordering and the placement of the marker.
