Jacob J. Strouse

Strouse, Jacob J. "Jake" BG Bvt(Ret.) Jake passed away on June 27, 2006 at the VA Care Center in St. Cloud, at the age of 81 after a courageous battle with heart disease and blindness. He is survived by wife, Marjorie Hanft Soderquist Strouse; son, Michael J. Strouse; daughters, Diane (Steven) Kent and Linda Strouse; sister, Marion May; grandchildren, Kristopher and David Kent, Gretchen and Anna Strouse; niece, Jeanne Pospisil; nephews, Jim and Mike Strouse and Larry Scott, the Duclos family; Leanne Wright; other family and friends. Preceded in death by parents, Lester and Rosia Strouse; brother, Clayton Strouse; wife, Norma Duclos Strouse; and great nephew, S.Sgt Kenneth Blake Pospisil. Jake was born on November 27, 1924 in Little Falls, MN. He grew up in Anoka where he and Norma raised their family. In 1943 he enlisted in the Air Force. During WWII he served in Europe as a Radio-Operator Gunner on a B-17 and participated in 32 combat missions over Germany. He was shot down, crashed once and had to parachute from his burning aircraft on another mission. In 1947 he joined the Minnesota National Guard and was called to active duty during the Korean Conflict in 1951 where he completed over 200 combat missions as an artillery observer flying behind enemy lines in an unarmed aircraft. He received numerous medals for his service to this country. Jake served in a number of key assignments during his career with the National Guard culminating his career as the Division Chief of Staff. He retired after suffering a severe heart attack at the Pentagon in 1978 while on special assignment with the National Guard Bureau. At the age of 22 Jake joined the Anoka Fire Dept. He served as the Anoka- Champlin Fire Chief from 1980 to 1987. Jake retired from the Dept. in 1987 when he married Marjorie and moved to Fort Collins, Colorado. Marjorie and Jake moved back to Anoka in 2004. The family thanks the caregivers at Champlin Shores and the VA Care Center in St. Cloud for the loving care they gave Jake. Lovable "Ole" Jake, we will miss your graciousness, dignity, big grin and wonderful sense of humor. You were loved by all who knew you. Funeral services Thursday 11:00 AM at the Zion Lutheran Church, 4th & Adams St., Anoka. Interment Calvary Cemetery, Anoka. Visitation Wednesday 5-8 PM at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, W. Main St. & Branch Ave., Anoka, and also one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials preferred. Thurston-Lindberg Chapel 763-421-0220
