Mr Carter was very despondent following the death of his wife. A few months after her death, he drank poison and died.

Berry Hasten Carter, well known citizen of the Ehrhardt section, died Sunday. His body was interred on Monday at Bethany Baptist Church, the funeral service being conducted by Rev L T Phillips of Ehrhardt. Mr Carter was 62 years of age and is survived by several children. He was a native of this county, and had spent his entire life here with the exception of the last few years. While living in Augusta last winter, his wife died, and since then he had been residing with relatives in Bamberg County. He was well thought of by numerous friends throughout the community.
