He was the twin of Arthur. He married as a young man and they had 2 children - LaVonne George and twin boys Randy Brantley & Ricky Dillard George. The marriage ended in divorce and he lost contact with his children during their growing up years.
He was a fun loving man, humorous and quite the "Ladies Man"! He enjoyed moving around, changing his surroundings. He always had a way of making a person feel comfortable and welcome.
He was very proud of his military service and talked about being issued a Winchester Model 12 shotgun. He served in the US Army from February 24, 1942 until January 9, 1946. He then served in the US Marines from July 3, 1953 until June 20, 1961. While in the Army during WW II, he served in New Guinea and the in the South Philippines. He received the WW II Victory Medal, the American Service Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with two Bonze Stars and the Philippines Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star.

We regret to announce the passing of Mr. Archie Lee George, age 89, of Donalsonville, GA who passed away Saturday, October 10, 2009 at Donalsonville Hospital.
Funeral services for Mr. George will be held on Monday, October 12, 2009, at 3:00 PM at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home with interment to follow in Friendship Cemetery in Donalsonville, GA. Visitation will be held on Sunday evening, Oct. 11, 2009 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home. At any other time, you may visit with the family at the home of Jeffrey Ross, 3380 Old Jakin Road, Donalsonville, GA.

Mr. George was born in Colquitt, GA on January 7, 1920 to the late Brantley C. and Emma Lee Houston George. He was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church and worked in construction as a heavy machine operator for many years. Mr. George had served his country in the Army, Air Force, and Marines.

He leaves to cherish his memory numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Brantley C. and Emma Lee Houston George; both of his wives, Eron Ward George and Doris Dykes George; three brothers, Arthur George, Clinton George, and Russell George; and two sisters, Hazel Reynolds and Allie Ruth Pomaroy.
