John E. Chatham Dead.

Santa Fe Man Passes Away at Mulvane This Morning.

John E. Chatham, of 1005 South First street, who for the past fifteen years has been an employee of the Santa Fe, passed away at the company hospital in Mulvane, at an early hour this morning. The news of his death was received by the family here about 8 o'clock. Miss Mable, a daughter of the deceased, who is employed in the office of Agent Blackmore here, went to Mulvane today to look after the body. Arrangements for the funeral have not been completed. The cause of Mr. Chatham's death was dropsy. He has been ill for several months and had been unable to work for some time. Since November 1, last year, he had been taking treatment at the hospital.

Mr. Chatham was employed as a pumper for the Santa Fe for several years. Besides the widow, Mr. Chatham leaves two daughters and four sons. They are Miss Mable, of this city, Mrs. Chas. Gillock of north of the city, Clinton, of Lawton, Okla., John, of Oklahoma City, Charles of Ralston, and Robert of Skedee.

The deceased was 62 years of age. He was a good citizen and a kind and loving husband. He had many friends in Arkansas City, who will regret to learn of his death and who will sympathize with the bereaved family. The sons have all been notified of the death and will be here to attend the funeral, announcement of which will be made tomorrow.
