ABERNATHY, DON THOMAS, age 91, of Coker Creek, passed away 10:40 a.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at the Ben Atchley State Veteran's Home. He was born in Murphy, NC January 2, 1922. He was a member and deacon of Calvary Baptist Church. He was a veteran of WW II and served in the U.S. Army Air Force; after two terms he was discharged as a Tech. Sgt. He retired from Y-12 in Oak Ridge after 22 years service.

Preceded in death by wife, Fay Ball Abernathy, parents, Eli and Kate Abernathy. Survivors: daughter, Ramona Fay Fair, of Cosby; son and daughter-in-law, David Don and Alzena Abernathy, of Seymour; grandchildren, Travis Thomas Abernathy, of Knoxville; Robin Christa Abernathy, of Murfreesboro; sister, Sylvia Sullivan, Ft. Worth, Texas; brothers, Claude Abernathy, Dennis Abernathy, of Coker Creek, Troy Abernathy, of Gallatin; several nieces and nephews.

The family expresses their gratefulness to Ben Atchley State Veteran's Home for their loving and competent care the last three years. Funeral 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Calvary Baptist Church, Coker Creek, Rev. Johnny Stewart, Rev. David Abernathy officiating. Interment in church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church. Family will receive friends 12:30- 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church. Arrangements by Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, Tellico Plains.
