The son of Benton Spencer Beckley and Mabel Gertrude Hollenbeck, Alfred was born near Leonard, Shelby County, Missouri. He served in the United States Army during World War I and was a private first class by the time he received his discharge.

After he returned home from the service, he married Esther Ruby Schwada on 18 Apr 1920 in Shelbyville, Missouri.

Alfred was a farmer, and they were the parents of 4 children.

He was a member of the Clarence American Legion Post No. 309. He belonged to Berea Christian Church.

The Beckleys celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house that was held in their home in April of 1970. The event was planned by their 4 children and their spouses.

Esther passed away in 1978.

Alfred died almost 5 years later at the age of 87 years, 10 months and 25 days.

He was survived by 2 sons, Don Beckley of rural Clarence, Missouri, and Wendell Beckley of rural Leonard; 2 daughters, (Living) Searcy of Kirksville, Missouri, and (Living) Lowery of Moberly, Missouri; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Elwyn Beckley of Leonard; and 2 sisters, Vera Stewart of Quincy, Illinois, and Grace Prange of Shelbyville.

In addition to his wife, Alfred was preceded in death by his parents.

Greening-Eagan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Wedding announcement:

Mr. Alfred B. Beckley and Miss Esther Schwada were united in marriage at the home of the officiating minister, Rev. F.M. Branic, in this city Sunday afternoon, April 18, at 4:30 o'clock.

The groom, an ex-service man, is an enterprising young farmer, son of B.S. Beckley and wife of west of town. The bride is the daughter of John Schwada of near Hagers Grove and a very popular young woman of that community. They will make their home west of town on the Albert Beckley farm, better known as the John Perry farm.
