Clara Fanny Wimberley was born on May 10, 1902, in Wimberley, Hays Cuonty, Texas. She was the daughter of Andrew Jackson Wimberley and his wife Fanny B. Tanner Wimberley. Clara was the tenth of their 15 children. Her grandparents were Pleasant Wimberley and Amanda Julian Jackson Wimberley.

In 1919 Clara, 17, met twenty-year-old John Wilson Robinson, the man of her dreams. John had come to Texas from his home in North Carolina to visit with relatives who were farming near Staples, Guadalupe County, Texas. After a whirlwind courtship, Clara and John were married on November 1, 1919. The young couple quickly realized that they had a major problem--one that might destroy their marriage. John longed to return home to Sherrills Ford, North Carolina, where his parents lived as well as his 12 brothers and sisters. His family had lived there for generations. He was homesick! Clara, however, very much wanted to stay in Hays County where her family had lived for three generations. Her parents and her own 12 brothers and sisters lived in the area, and she didn't want to leave Texas. The couple argued; and John left her behind and returned to North Carolina by himself. But just a month later, John received a message to come to the railroad station. When he arrived, out stepped Clara, gaily saying, "Well, I'm here!"

Clara's new hometown was beautifully situated on the banks of the Catawba River. She missed her family, but she came back to Texas to visit as much as she could. And she was soon a mother and taking care of her own household. John and Clara had seven children over the next 17 years--Verna, John, Erma, Norman, Richard, Lois, and Walter. Clara and John were devastated when their youngest child Walter died at the age of 14 months. But life went on and Clara and John rejoiced in the good health and accomplishments of their remaining six children.

John farmed while Clara took care of the household and children. And when oranges were ready to be picked, John and often Clara and the children moved to Florida to package oranges and supplement their farm income.

In their elder years, John and Clara moved to Florida to live with their daughter Erma and her family. John died on October 7, 1963, in Fernandina Beach, Nassau County, Florida. Clara died almost 15 years later on September 5, 1978, in Bristol, Calhoun County, Florida. Clara's body was returned to Sherrills Ford, Catawba County, North Carolina, for burial. Over the years she had come to think of Catawba County, North Carolina, as home rather than Hays County, Texas. She was buried beside her husband John in the Mount Pleasant Methodist Church Cemetery. The graves of her in-laws and son Walter who had died as an infant were nearby. Later, her sons Norman and Richard would also be buried in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
