John was the son of Isaac & Nancy (Dailey) Orwick. He was the 1st born of their 13 children. He was married to Mary (Isabel) Williams. Their 3 children were Harry Elmer, Mabel Mary and Michael Isaac.

John was a brick mason who helped build Kansas City's Union Station. He spent several years working as a bricklayer in Louisiana and Texas in the 1920's later returning again to Kansas City where they spent most of their lives.
