Donald S. Shride, 84, of Henton, died at 2:55 p.m., Monday, Oct. 12, 2009, in his residence.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, with Pastor Larry Flaugher officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Henton Cemetery, Henton, IL., with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association.

Don was born on May 29, 1925, in Obed, Illinois, the son of George W. and Pearl W. Cutler Shride.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1945, during World War II. He was a superintendent for Howell Asphalt in Mattoon. Don was a member of the Henton Church of God, Operating Engineers Local #851 of Terre Haute, IN., and a life member of V.F.W.

He married Barbara Mose on September 15, 1949. She preceded him in death on August 28, 2009.

Surviving are his sons: Michael T. (Gail Buckles) Shride of Lakewood; and J. Alan (Debbie) Shride of Bethany; daughters: Cheryl E. (David) Reider of Wabash, IN.; and Susan G. (Allen) Wildman of Findlay; sister, Nancy Laudell of Decatur; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great- great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara; son, Donald S. Shride, Jr.; daughter, Donella Mitchell; five brothers, James, Merle, Bob, Gail and Raymond Shride; one sister, Blanche Fortner; and one grandchild, Deriek A. Shride.
