Fannie was the daughter Washington Redmon of Bourbon County, Kentucky, and Mary Rebecca Ashcraft. She was married three times. Her first husband was Robert Lair of Harrison County, whom she married on January 29, 1873, in Paris, Bourbon County, Kentucky. They were the parents of two sons, Redmon E. Lair and John M. Lair, and one daughter who was stillborn in September 1878. Following Robert's death in 1879, Fannie married her second husband, Jesse Newton "Newt" Stone of Scott County, Kentucky. After Newt's death in 1901, Fannie married her third husband, William Shropshire.
