Joseph "Virgil" Stump, age 87, of Grant Manor Nursing Home, in Williamstown, Kentucky, formerly of Cynthiana, Kentucky, died Sunday, November 18, 2007, at the nursing home. He was born in Harrison County, Kentucky, on July 9, 1920, to the late George C. and Delilah McCauley Stump. He was a retired farmer and Blake and Johnson employee. Virgil was an honorably discharged Marine veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by: his wife, Frances Judy Stump; and a son, Virgil Warren Stump. Survivors include: a brother, Ernest Stump, of Lexington, Kentucky; a sister, Ruby Hays, of Lake City, Tennessee; a daughter-in-law, Sandy Stump, of Harrison County; two grandchildren, Rachel Stump, of Louisville, Kentucky, and Bradley Warren (Kristen) Stump, of Cynthiana; a step-grandson, Brian (Tracye) Halen, of Cynthiana; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Drake-Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home by Rev. Lester Caldwell and Rev. Wayne Tolson, with burial at Battle Grove Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday. Active pallbearers are Brian Halen, Trey Finley, Bradley Stump, Richard Stump, David Cordray, Curtis Judy and Eddie Judy. Honorary pallbearers are Brandon Halen, Jack McCauley, Ernest Stump, Anthony Doolin and Tommy Anderson.
