James A. Walker, 70, of Shannon Dale Drive, a minister, died of heart attack
Tuesday at the Medical Center.
Services are 11:30 a.m. Friday at Forest Hill United Methodist Church with
burial in Lakewood South. Visitation is 5 8 p.m. today at Baldwin-Lee Funeral
Home.
Mr. Walker, a native of Green County, Kentucky, and former Edwards resident, had
lived in Jackson for 17 years. He graduated from Linsey Wilson Junior College
and Kentucky Wesleyan College. He received his master of divinity degree from
Emory University and a masters of Science and doctorate degrees from the
University of Southern Mississippi. He was a Methodist minister for 35 years in
churches in Magee, Richton, Pascagoula, Meridian, Jackson, Rawls Springs, Oak
Grove, Edwards and Vicksburg. He was a member of Forest Hill United Methodist
Church. After retiring from the ministry, Dr. Walker and his wife, Bea, also
owned Christian Life Bookstore from 1979 1992.
Other survivors include: sons, Ernie Walker of Pearl, MS., Maurice Walker of
Clinton and Fred Walker of Long Beach, MS; daughter. Kay Frazier of Gainesville,
Fla.; mother, Mattie Walker Wayne of Campbellsville, KY; brothers, Tom Walker
and Buford Walker, both of Campbellsville, KY and Wayne Walker of Louisville,
KY; sisters, Vetrie Milby and Dean Carter of Campbellsville, KY, Mary Louise
Dickerson of Owensville, OH and Laurine Beauchamp of Owensville, KY; and nine
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
