She died Monday, March 13, 2000, in Merrill Gardens.
She was born Nov. 13, 1907, in Janesville, Ill.
She owned Caward's Children Ready to Wear for several years. She was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star No. 56, Gray Ladies during World War II, Pink Ladies at the Lea County Hospital and she was named retailer of the year in 1973.
She was named Lea County Pioneer in 1991 and member of the Downtown Merchants Association and the Chamber of Commerce. She was also a member of Faith Assembly of God in Hobbs.
Survivors include three daughters, Leota R. Bozarth of Scottsdale, Ariz., Vera Rogers of Albuquerque, N.M., and Martha Wright of Hobbs, N.M.; a sister, Mildred Garrison of Van Nuys, Calif.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family suggest memorial to Vista Care Family Hospice, 1515 Calles Sur, Hobbs, or to the American Cancer Society.
