William Guffie Barkley, 91, of Hamilton, died Monday, July 8 at the Hamilton General Hospital following a short illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 10 at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Cal Hoffman officiating. Burial was in I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Mr. Barkley was born April 21, 1900 in Purmela to William Wood and Ada [Acineth] Mariott Barkley. On July 3, 1920, he married Mavis Olivia Doggett, who preceded him on death. He was a lifelong resident of Hamilton, and worked in almost every capacity at the Hamilton National Bank, including the positions of President and Chairman of the Board.
Survivors include one son, Billy Harold Barkley; three grandchildren, Dr. Hal Barkley, Dr. Robert F. Barkley , and Todd G. Barkley; four great grandchildren, Brent, Daniel, Rachel, and William G. Barkley; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Dr. Raymond Barkley.
Pallbearers were Robert Witzsche, Doug Forrest, Myron Kauitzsch, Bert Schrank, Dr. Bill Craig, Frank Johnson, and Johnny Harris.
