EDITH (McGRAY) TILTON

CORINTH - Edith (McGray) Tilton, 81, passed away at the Brewer healthcare facility. She was born Feb. 23, 1924, in Charleston, the daughter of Thomas I. and Bernina (Sowers) McGray.

Edith lived most of her life in Corinth where she was a member of the Corinth United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker and while raising her children, she helped her husband, Ben, in building their business, Ben Tilton and Sons of Corinth. After the passing of her husband, she enjoyed traveling with her companion of 32 years, Donald Johnson. Don and Edith owned E & D Trucking of Corinth and together they traveled throughout 49 states in America. She also enjoyed her rottweilers "Lady" and "Princess". Edith will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and companion.

Edith is survived by her children, Sandra McGonagle and her husband, John, of New Hampshire, Sheila Stephenson and her husband, Thomas, of Atkinson, Bruce Tilton and his wife, Bonnie, of Corinth and Sherry Lucia and her husband, Edward, of New Hampshire; her close friend and companion of 32 years, Donald Johnson, of Corinth; twin sister Ethel Strout, of Charleston; and sister Geraldine Bean of Corinth, 15 grandchildren, many great-grand-children, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Benjamin R. Tilton Jr. in 1972; two sons Benjamin "Jock" Tilton III in 2000 and Sharland Tilton in 2000; a grandson, Mike Tilton in 2003; and by one brother, and six sisters.

Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Corinth United Methodist Church, Maine Street, Corinth, with the Rev. Cynthia Nickerson, pastor officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot at Corinthian Cemetery, Corinth, ME 04427. Messages of condolence or memories may be shared through www.hampdengilpatrick.com.
