Arnold was the son of Carl and Martha Schultz. He married Ida Opsedahl from Overly. They lived on a farm two miles NE of Omemee. They had four children: Irene, Carol, Roger, and Ellen. Ida died when their house burned down. Arnold worked on farms in the area and then worked for the county. He died in Bantry, North Dakota.
