LONG BEACH - Ralph E. Wilkerson, 49, of Long Beach, died Monday, August 3, 1998, at Tulane Medical Center.
Mr. Wilkerson was a native of Biloxi and a resident of Long Beach. He graduated from St. Martin High School and received an associates degree in Horticulture from Perkinston Junior College. He owned and operated Ralph's Nursery in Long Beach as well as Evergreen Landscape Service. Mr. Wilkerson was formerly associated with Frasier's Nursery in Biloxi. He devoted himself to the nursery business for over thirty years. Mr. Wilkerson was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Biloxi. He was baptized, confirmed and was an acolyte at St. John's Episcopal Church in Ocean Springs. Mr. Wilkerson was an Eagle Scout and belonged to the Order of the Arrow. He was the current president of the Mardi Gras Krewe of Who.
He was preceded in death by his father, E. Frasier Wilkerson; his paternal grandparents, Luther and Lillie Wilkerson; and his maternal grandparents, John and Alice Cox.
Survivors include a daughter, Melissa E. Slater and her husband Robert A. Slater Jr. of Ocean Springs; a son, Adam Craft Wilkerson of Ocean Springs; his mother, Eileen Wilkerson of Biloxi; his fiancee of eight years, Janet Millard of Long Beach and her sons, James, Richard and Robert Millard and her daughter, Elizabeth Kaylor; two brothers, Douglas J. Wilkerson and Lee F. Wilkerson and his wife Silvia, all of Biloxi; four sisters, Barbara L. Mabry and husband Danny Mabry of Biloxi, Carole S. Hermes and husband Clifford Hermes Sr. of Biloxi, Janice K. Bellinger of Ocean Springs, and Ellen D. Wilkerson and husband Michael Bledsoe of Cleveland, TN; stepchildren, Todd Wolfe and wife Tonia and children, and Candace Wolfe; nieces and nephews, Clay Mabry, Michelle Hooper, Clifford Hermes Jr., Jason Wilkerson, Lisa Tribble and husband Wayne, Rachel Hermes, John Hermes, Timothy Hermes, Patrick Bledsoe, Kyle Bellinger, Stephen Wilkerson, and Katrina Bledsoe; great-nieces, Samantha Hooper, Jennifer Hooper, Julie Wilkerson, and Ashleigh Tribble; his Aunt Olive DeLier of Detroit, Michigan; and numerous cousins.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 1998, at Riemann Funeral Home on Beauvoir Road in Biloxi. Funeral services will be at St. John's Episcopal Church in Ocean Springs on Saturday, August 8, 1998, at 2 p.m. A reception for family and friends will be one hour prior to the service in the Parish Hall. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Ocean Springs.
