She was a member of Smyrna Methodist Church, Oakfield Senior Citizens, Maine Teacher's Association and National Education Association. Evelyn graduated from Merrill High School and Presque Isle Normal School. She retired after 38 years of teaching in Dyer Brook, West Baldwin and Merrill. She enjoyed crafts, sewing and loved to bake. Her family looked forward to the fresh baked bread and chocolate chip cookies she would make when they came to visit. She always had a ready smile and helping hand for everyone. Her grandchildren loved to listen to the stories of her growing up with a family full of practical jokers.
She is survived by her sons, Morris Blake and his wife, Lora, of Plantsville, Conn., and Zephyrhills, Fla., and Duane Blake of Holden; grandchildren, Morris Blake Jr. of Connecticut, Denise and Quentin Memmelaar of North Carolina, Michael and Heidi Blake of Connecticut, Debra and Robert Burke of North Carolina, David and Rose Marie Blake of Brewer, Alison and Scott Schevling of Connecticut, and Amy and Troy Lindsay of Connecticut; 13 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by brothers, Chalma, Philip and Calvin Estabrook; sister, Millicent Rainey; and daughter-in-law, Roseanne Blake. Graveside funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Dyer Brook Cemetery with the Rev. Andy Harthorne officiating. (Bangor Daily News 10/16/2009)
