WINOOSKI – Emery "Peter" Stannard, 76, a lifelong resident of Winooski passed away Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care after a continuing battle with emphysema. Pete was born in Burlington on Jan. 5, 1933, the son of the late Peter E. and Eva (Bishop) Stannard.

He graduated from Burlington High School the class of 1951. On July 18, 1953, he was married to Joyce Stone at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Burlington. They were married for 49 years and he was predeceased by his wife Joyce on Nov. 17, 2002. Pete enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Vermont National Guard, Camp Johnson in 1988. One week a year for over 30 years he worked at the Champlain Valley Fair greeting folks at the gates and taking their tickets. Pete enjoyed hunting, fishing, cribbage, bowling and was an avid Celtics and Boston Red Sox fan. He was a member of the Elks Lodge BPOE 916.

He is survived by his four daughters, Linda Thibault and her husband Roger of South Burlington, Deborah Martell of Winooski, Diane Daubenschmidt and her husband Mark of South Burlington, and Kelly Ann Stannard of Winooski; two grandchildren Heather Osborne and her husband Tyler, and Mark Daubenschmidt Jr.; sister-in-law Sandra Jacobs and her husband Donald, his father-in-law Lionel Perras, a special friend and nephew Charlie Hahn and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife Joyce, daughter Cynthia Stannard, sister Rose Hahn, and brother-in-law Charles Hahn.
