George was the son of George Fred Sengel, Sr., and Agnes Elizabeth Miller. About 1949 he married Mary Alice Duncan and they had two sons, George Fred "Tuck" and David. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II who flew missions on a B-24 as a bombardier in the Pacific. He was a lifelong football professional who coached ends at the University of Kentucky. In 1979 he became a full-time scout for the Buffalo Bills.
