He married Mary Lou Hemphill on Dec 14, 1937 in Las Vegas, Clark County, Nevada; they had 4 children: Betty Lou (Manuele), Christy (Clegg), John Frank (1942-2005) and Ronald Duane (1938-1996).

John William served with the US Navy in WW II.
