He was born Aug. 31, 1930, in Springfield, the son of Charles W. and Eleanor Newell Jones. On September 9, 1967, he married Dorothy Lewis; she preceded him in death in 2003.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Tom Jones.
Mr. Jones was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War. He was retired from the Pillsbury Mill.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and South Side Christian Church.
He is survived by a sister, Virginia (husband, Jack) Jackson of California; a stepson, Ralph "Bud" (wife, Kelly) Lewis of Dayton Beach, FL; a stepdaughter, Bonnie McWhood of Loami; a step-grandson, Lance Lewis of Arkansas; four nieces and nephews; and several cousins.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 11 a.m. at the funeral chapel. Pastor Ray Artrip will officiate. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
