Joseph Denton Patterson was killed while fighting against Union troops during the Battle of Vicksburg, Warren County, Mississippi. His grave marker is next to his mother and father William Craven Patterson, Sr. and Elizabeth Denton Patterson in the Patterson/Fountain Family Cemetery near Ivey, Georgia. It is unclear if his body is actually buried there as the marker was placed there in the 1930s, well after the Civil War. He was married to Nancy Jenkins in Wilkinson County, GA on 19 Apr 1860. They had one son, William Bartholomew (Barkaloo) Patterson. It is not known as to what happened to Nancy Jenkins Patterson following the death of her husband but it is believed she married 2nd to Thomas Franklin Brewer of Gordon, GA . William B. Patterson was found living with his aunt Nancy J. [nee Patterson] Batchelor and her husband Richard in the 1880 US Federal Census in Wilkinson County, GA census. Nancy Patterson Batchelor was the aunt of William B. Patterson. He was found in the 1890 census married to Louisiana Willis in Wilkinson Co., GA. It has been erroneously reported that Nancy Jane Patterson Batchelor was Nancy Jenkins who was previously married to Joseph Denton Patterson.
