Thomas was the son of John Lamar (1788 - 1871) and Mary Louisa Winn (1793 - 1868).

He married Mary Elizabeth Smith on 9 Sep 1845 in Marion County, Georgia. They had seven children:

1. Mary Viola Lamar (1848-1859)
2. Orfila Voisian (1848-1933)
3. Charles Winn Lamar (1853-1912)
4. Imogene Lamar (1857-1931)
5. Peter Lamar aka Cook Farnum (1858-1916)
6. John Lamar (1860-?)
7. Willie P. Lamar (1862-1862)

The first son of Thomas and Mary, Orfila V., was a Cadet at the Georgia Military Institute and served in Co. B, Georgia Battalion of Cadets. On a pension application for T. Green Cheney, O.V. Lamar said that the two were "raised as neighbors". The Cheney family's farm was believed to be 4 miles east of Ellaville, GA. It is known that the Lamar family also resided close to Ellaville as some of their children were born there. The family later resided in Americus, where Thomas was a physician. They lived on Lamar Street in that city.

Not much is known about the life of T.C. Lamar. If anyone has any knowledge of his life and death I would sure appreciate the information.
