A story about Alfert Swonke as told by his son.
Alfert had a government job operating a crane at the top of the shop carrying molting steel to dump into a cooling vat;the dumping was to be done very slowly so that it wouldn't smoke.(This was during the war and it was a law that you couldn't quit your job at this time to pursue a different line of work.Alfert wanted to go into the dairy business.)To make a long story short,Alfert dumped the hot steel as fast as he could into the cooling vat.....smoke filled the shop.....the foreman motioned to Alfert to come down.....and that is how Alfert became a dairyman.
