Joseph was one of the five men who got together and formed the Riverside Fire Company in 1892. He was elected the first Vice President when the company was formally established.
Joseph died suddenly. He was the first fireman to pass away. For 90 days after his death, a black drape was hung across the front of the firehouse. This started a tradition that goes on today. Joseph also was the Postmaster in Riverside, New Jersey.
The relatives and friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend the funeral, on Wednesday morning, at 9 o'clock, from his late residence in Riverside, New Jersey. High mass will be celebrated at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church at 10 o'clock and interment will be in churchyard.
