Walter Edwin Wimberley was born on June 12, 1893, in Wimberley, Hays County, Texas. He was the fourth child and second boy born to his parents Andrew Jackson Wimberley and Fanny B. Tanner Wimberley. His paternal grandparents were Pleasant Wimberley and Amanda Julian Jackson Wimberley.

Of all of Andrew and Fanny's 15 children, Walter was the one who stayed in his parents' home the longest. In 1900 the family was still living in Hays County where Walter was born. Walter did leave home in 1918 to serve his country as a private during World War I. Upon his return home, he moved with his parents and siblings to Guadalupe County. Then, by 1930 Walter and his parents and some of his siblings moved to San Saba County. And by the early 1940's Walter and his parents were living back in Hays County. At some time after that, Walter and his brother Raymon Andrew moved to Waco, McLennan County, Texas.

In Waco, where he worked as a bricklayer and stone mason, Walter fell in love with and married Rosalie, a woman who was 17 years younger than he. Despite the age difference, the two were very happy together. Rosalie had been married previously and brought to the marriage both a daughter Mary Louise and a son Johnny.

Walter died on August 11, 1978, and was buried in Chapel Hill Memorial Park in Waco. Rosalie died 14 years later and was buried beside Walter.
