E. G. Partridge Undertaker Here For a Half Century Passes Away at His Home on Mechanic Street at the Age of 75 Years.

The death of Elbridge Gerry Partridge occurred this morning at 2:35 o'clock at the family home, 25 Mechanic street, at the age of 75 years, 10 months and 8 days. He is survived by a daughter, Miss Genevieve S. Partridge of Jamestown; two sons, Albert G. Partridge of Akron, O., and Louis M. Partridge of this city; two sisters, Miss Ellen M. Partridge of this city and Mrs. Marie A. Boyd of Larchmont, N.Y.; and six grandchildren, Ellspeth, Emily and David Partridge of Akron, O., and Althea, Catherine and Margaret of this city. Mr. Partridge, who was associated in the undertaking business with his son, Louis M. Partridge, under the firm of E. G. Partridge & Son, was actively engaged in the profession until about a year ago. About a month after his retirement, in April 1923 he fell, breaking his hip which had confined him to his home. He was born in Jamestown, May 12, 1848, the son of Albert A. and Mary Taft Partridge. After attending the Jamestown public schools, he entered the Cedar Valley seminary in 1865, from which he was graduated in 1868. Following his graduation, he traveled thru [sic] the southern states, locating for a few months in Kentucky. He then returned to Jamestown where for two years he had charge of the office of George Wood & Company, furniture manufacturers. He then entered the employ of Henry Comstock, undertaker and furniture dealer. In association with Messrs. Breed, Aldrich and Johnson, he conducted a business for five years under the firm name E. G. Partridge and Company, later selling his interest to his partners. For two years he was associated in business with Theodore F. VanDusen, after which he conducted the business alone, later associating with his son under the present name of E. G. Partridge & Son at 3 West Fourth street. His place of business was for many years at the corner of West Second and Cherry streets and in the Ellicott building. He was a 32d degree Mason, a member of Mt. Moriah Lodge, F. & A. M., Western Sun chapter, R. A. M., Jamestown commandery, Knights Templar, Jamestown Council, R. & S. M., the Scottish Rite and the Mystic Shrine. He was also a member of the First Congregational church and Jamestown lodge, B. P. O. Elks. Mr. Partridge first married Althea Chase Merrill at Maywood, Ill., who died May 28, 1884. The children of this marriage were the late George H. Partridge, Albert G. Partridge and Louis M. Partridge. He married a second time, Florence Anne Clement. To this union was born Miss Genevieve S. Partridge, now residing at the family home. Mr. Partridge represented the best in undertaking work since 1873. He was a most kindly man, possessed of a fine personality which endeared him to a wide circle professionally as well as winning for him a large circle of friends. His ministry in the homes of sorrow for over 50 years will long linger in the hearts of the many who came to know him. The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon.---------------
