Folks said that Sam was born in the wrong era, he was always an outdoorsman, staying out in the woods alone, trapping, gold panning. He had hides nailed to the wall drying. he loved guns and old clocks and had a large collection. He once made a long rifle barrel out of a model A drive shaft by drilling clear through and coming out dead center at the other end. He made bullets in his forge. He typed pages of the bible to keep his fingers limber and read aloud out of his law books to keep his voice, he played flamenco style guitar on the old Spanish guitars his father brought back after the Spanish-American war. Sam could know what you were going to say befor you said it, spoke the words along with you, wavy dark auburn hair, brown eyes, ambidextrous. He lived with his mother most of his life, every year she baked him a birthday cake on Oct 18, she said someone had put the wrong date on his birth cert. In Feb 1936, he went up to Alaska on the SS Alaska, looking for work, did not find any. while there he was boxing and got hit in the head, the blow could have caused the PBA. Sam and his dad and uncles were carpenters, remodeling and building many houses around Grays Harbor, WA. Sam built a Dutch barn singlehanded, only needing help to raise the rafters, on the corner of Bailey rd and 17th, Elma WA. It is mostly gone now, spring 2012. this large dairy barn, pictured, is still a working dairy farm, 2012. Sam suffered from uncontrolable giggling fits, PBA ...
