RUSSELL — Rosa Irene Elsasser, 95, of Russell died Oct. 16 at Great Bend Regional Hospital, Great Bend. She was born Dec. 3, 1913, at Wheatland Township in Barton County, the daughter of J.P. and Kathrina (Schneider) Ochs. Rosa lived her early life on the family farm, received her basic education near her home and was baptized and confirmed in the Reformed Schoenfeld Church in northern Barton County. She married Alvin Elsasser on Nov. 1, 1936, at the St. John Lutheran Church of Russell. They were blessed with two sons and one daughter, Allen, Harlan and Elaine.
She lived on the family farm south of Milberger. She was a homemaker. Rosa and Alvin moved to Russell from the farm in 1971.
Mrs. Elsasser was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.
Surviving family include her sons Allen Elsasser of San Antonio, Texas, and Harlan Elsasser of Heyburn, Idaho; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren and two step-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alvin on June 2, 1995, daughter Elaine Machin on Jan. 27, 1995, five brothers, four sisters and one grandchild.
A celebration of Rosa's life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary Chapel in Russell with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating. Burial will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Russell. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary with the family present to greet visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Russell Regional Hospital and sent in care of the mortuary.
